The iRecord Dragonflies App is available now
This exciting development allows you to input and upload your dragonfly records in the field. And with excellent identification information, the app is easy to use by experts and amateurs alike. Read on to discover a new world of dragonfly recording.
*** Problem with Geolocation in the App, 2017 ***
Due to recent changes in the way Google supplies GPS co-ordinates to apps such as this, users trying to use their phone's GPS to enter the location of a sighting see an error "Only secure origins are allowed". To work around this problem, please enter a Grid Reference manually for each sighting. We are working on a fix with our developer at the BRC. You may be able to avoid the problem by using this link: https://www.irecord.org.uk/dragonflies/
The dragonflies app for recording has an extensive gallery for each species, along with flight season graphs, habitat information and distribution maps. Coupled with the ability to upload your photograph instantly, this will greatly improve accuracy of identification and ease of verification of records. These features open up dragonfly recording to anyone, even those inexperienced at identifying dragonflies.
In addition to this, there are advanced recording options, for our seasoned dragonfly recorders. These include the ability to record life-stage, behaviour and species counts. Along with the ability to record full species lists for your sites, the app fits perfectly within our DragonflyWatch Recording Framework.
The app, published in association with the CEH, BRC, JNCC and BDS, can also be used for uploading old records, so a great excuse to finally input those old records in your notebooks!
As the app runs from a website, it is compatible with Android, iOS, laptops and most tablets - anything with a modern browser.
