    It was extremely pleasing that the recent British Dragonfly Society’s Recorders’ Conference opened with a special award. A signed Ruddy Darter print by artist Richard Lewington was presented to Ingrid Twissell by BDS President Pam Taylor to mark the one millionth dragonfly record to be sent to the BDS.

    The British Dragonfly Society (BDS) has just chosen this stunning shot as the winner of its Large Red Damselfly photographic competition. The winning entry by Martin Černý from the Czech Republic will now feature on the front of a BDS citizen science postcard in Scotland.

    30th January 2013

    To mark 30 years of dragonfly recording, we are joining with the Biological Records Centre to present the BDS Recorders Conference and BRC Workshop at CEH Wallingford on Saturday 16 March 2013.  The event will launch the new dragonfly recording initiative DragonWatch.   All dragonfly recorders, national recording scheme representatives and interested individuals are welcome to attend.

    The BDS has supported a manual produced by the WWT and RSPB on sustainable drainage systems.  The manual gives detailed advice on how new developments can prevent flooding whilst benefiting wildlife and local people.  It includes digging more ponds and filtering run-off so that cleaner water reaches our rivers and streams.
