Working to conserve dragonflies and their wetland habitats

The BDS needs your support. Although many species of dragonfly are doing well almost a third of our species are in decline.  Following successful recording for the atlas, due for publication in autumn 2013, we need volunteers to DragonflyWatch.  This map shows atlas progress up  to the end of 2011.

Atlas progress March 2012

Red squares show areas unrecorded or recorded before 2000.  Yellow squares have been recorded since 2000 but the number of species does not meet the local target.  Green squares have been recorded since 2000 and the number of species exceeds the local target.  As you can see from this map, BDS recorders managed to record dragonflies in almost every area of the country. We now need to continue that recording momentum, so that we can continue to conserve dragonflies and their wetland habitats.  Look out for details of our new recording initiative, DragonflyWatch, in the spring.

Although recording for our atlas project has now been completed, you can still find out about this work from last season’s website page.
